Fat Spaniel Targets Commercial
Solar Hot Water Market

Monitoring Provider Extends Service Offering, Adds Partners

San Jose, Calif. – December 3, 2007 – Fat Spaniel Technologies, Inc., the market leader in providing monitoring and reporting services for distributed renewable energy systems, today announced the general availability of a new web-based monitoring solution for commercial-scale solar hot water installations. The extended Fat Spaniel service, newly-integrated with the Insight Manager portal for multi-site management, gives owners and installers an effective tool to maximize performance, manage maintenance and receive revenue-grade reports for all their solar water heating systems.

“Strong environmental incentives and increasingly compelling economics are driving significant interest in and adoption of commercial solar hot water systems,” said Chris Beekhuis, president and CTO of Fat Spaniel Technologies. “With our deep experience and our leadership in the renewable energy monitoring market, Fat Spaniel is well-positioned to meet demand and help the industry grow. This latest service offering extends the same high-quality Fat Spaniel monitoring and reporting capabilities trusted by solar electric system owners and installers worldwide to a new group of customers in the solar hot water market.”

Fat Spaniel’s solar hot water monitoring service delivers both real-time and historical system performance and status data over the web, via cellular modem, satellite or land-line. The service can now be managed through Fat Spaniel’s recently launched Insight Manager multi-site management portal, enabling system owners to simultaneously and cost-effectively track multiple solar installations.

Incorporating flow metering and temperature sensor hardware from Sweden’s Metrima, Fat Spaniel delivers its solar hot water monitoring services through select partners including EnerWorks, Mondial Energy, SunTechnics and Novan Solar.

“We are busy pioneering new models in selling solar hot water as a service. Quite simply, Fat Spaniel monitoring helps make our business possible,” said Alex Winch, CEO of Mondial Energy, a Toronto-based power purchase agreement (PPA) provider for commercial solar hot water projects. “Fat Spaniel allows us to monitor our geographically diverse systems from a central location, maintain optimal system performance with minimal maintenance costs, and bill our customers via a credible third-party reporting system.”

Ed Murray, director of the Solar Thermal Division for SunTechnics, added, “Fat Spaniel monitoring provides a key competitive advantage to SunTechnics’ commercial system business by allowing us to confidently provide performance guarantees and support for our products, a significant value-add in this increasingly competitive marketplace.”
