Fat Spaniel Gains WREGIS Qualification for Renewable Energy Credit Market
Energy Monitoring Service Provider Named Trusted Reporting Entity for Western North American REC Market
San Jose, Calif. – February 13, 2008 –Fat Spaniel Technologies, Inc., the market leader in providing monitoring and reporting services for distributed renewable energy systems, today announced it has been designated a Qualified Reporting Entity (QRE) for the Western Region Electricity Generation Information System (WREGIS), a regional registry and tracking system for Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). Fat Spaniel’s independent, revenue-grade reporting and billing services enable renewable energy system owners to maximize return on investment, investors to manage risk, and REC buyers to purchase the environmental attributes of clean power with confidence.
“Fat Spaniel’s approval as a QRE for WREGIS is a testament to the importance of a trusted independent source of renewable energy system data collection and reporting,” said Chris Beekhuis, president and CTO of Fat Spaniel Technologies. “The fast-growing voluntary and compliance REC markets represent a critical source of additional revenue for renewable energy systems. By quantifying and verifying a system’s power production, Fat Spaniel helps energy customers and project owners turn their clean energy generation into additional cash flow through REC sales.”
RECs are tradable environmental commodities that represent proof that one megawatt-hour of electricity was generated from an eligible solar electric, wind or other renewable energy resource. WREGIS is an accounting system that issues, registers and tracks RECs within the region covered by the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), which includes 14 states, two Canadian provinces, and Baja California. As a WREGIS QRE, Fat Spaniel offers clean energy Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) service providers, system owners and financiers a range of reporting and compliance services for:
- Behind-the-Meter Generation: QRE Services including automatic collection, transmission, and WREGIS registration of renewable energy generation data for on-site solar PV systems and other distributed generation assets;
- Utility Scale Generation: Accurate and reliable QRE Services for renewable generation assets that are selling power into the wholesale market;
- REC Market Participation: Real-time REC tracking and monthly, quarterly or annual WREGIS registration for Renewable Energy Generators, REC Aggregators and other authorized third parties.
"WREGIS is focused on providing independent and verifiable information on generation of renewable energy within the Western interconnection. By providing verifiable and reliable data, Fat Spaniel will be an important part of the WREGIS program,” said Constance White, WREGIS director. “This data will be valuable to those states with renewable energy policies."
